The PstBet Governor’s Cup was launched on Thursday at Eenhana in the Ohangwena region.
The event will take place on 16 and 17 June and aims to promote sports development in the region. It also hopes to address shortcomings in youth sports talent development and identification.
“This is done to prevent young people from engaging in actions and habits that negatively impact their lives and may expose them to social ills,” said governor Walde Ndevashiya.
The cup will feature prominently on the region’s annual calendar, with each constituency and local authority invited to bid to host the event and demonstrate capacity in terms of sports facilities.
Different sports codes and teams from all constituencies in the region will be targeted, including soccer, volleyball, netball, boxing, athletics, basketball and owela.
PstBet’s Valdez Hamuyela said the company has sponsored the event for three consecutive years, to the tune of N$210 000, totaling N$70 000 per year.
