Woman allegedly kills newborn

Police in the Oshikoto region report that a woman allegedly killed her newborn baby at Okawambi village on Tuesday evening.

According to police regional commander commissioner Theopoline Kalompo-Nashikaku, the 26-year-old suspect gave birth to a baby girl and allegedly suffocated her with a scarf.

“Thereafter, she put the body in a plastic bag and hid it in a drum which she covered with her clothes. After the incident, the suspect’s friend came to visit her and asked about the pregnancy, which was no longer visible, but she failed to answer. The friend informed her father, who reported the matter to the police.

“Investigations confirmed the concealment of birth and murder of the baby,” said Kalompo-Nashikaku.
The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in court on Friday.
