South African minister of tourism Patricia de Lille opened Africa’s Travel Indaba with the traditional ringing of a bell at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre in Durban on Tuesday.
he African leisure trade show brings together tourism sector stakeholders from across the globe for three days of networking, business development, ideas exchange and celebration. The theme for this year’s Indaba is ‘Unlimited Africa’ with the mantra of ‘Shaping Africa’s Tomorrow, Through Connection Today’.
“As Africans, together, we will craft a narrative that tells our story in our own words, sharing with the world the unique contributions we bring to the global tourism community,” said De Lille in her keynote address. Featuring almost 1 000 exhibitors, 1 000 buyers and over 350 tourism products, Indaba attendees additionally include 21 African country representatives, airlines, tour operators, tourism boards and a host of destination marketing bodies.
he Namibia Tourism Board and some Namibian tour operators, tourism companies and lodges have joined the festivities, which anticipated a total of 6 000 attendees from 9 to 11 May.
