Two arrested for fake money

The police on Saturday arrested two men in Windhoek in connection with having counterfeit money.

Khomas police spokesperson warrant officer Silas Shipandeni says the suspects, one Cameroonian national and one Namibian national, were found in possession of fake Namibia and United States dollars.

Shipandeni says the money involves N$17 800 in counterfeit N$200 notes.

“On top of that the counterfeit money in US dollars, 100 notes, is totalling around U$187 303,” he says.

The suspects were allegedly also in possession of N$2 313 in authentic currency.

“We also managed to confiscate a number of items that we believe they have been using to produce this counterfeit money, including inks and printing machines,” Shipandeni says.

The suspects are due to appear in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in Katutura today.
