German ambassador to Namibia Thorsten Hutter says his country acknowledges the genocide atrocities of the massacre of the Nama and Ovaherero people during the genocide perpetrated between 1904 and 1908.
Hutter spoke to The Namibian on Wednesday at the commemoration of the Genocide Remembrance Day at the Parliament Gardens in Windhoek.
“I believe we are on a very good path to forge forward, which includes the issues of reconciliation.”
Hutter said in 2021, his government acknowledged the genocide atrocities and its moral responsibility to make things right, and he believes the 35th anniversary of the partnership between the two countries will bring about the desired outcomes in ongoing reconciliation and reparation talks.
Hutter said day is a reminder of the atrocities of the genocide while at the same time honouring the lives lost.
Hutter said it is also a turning pointing for both Namibia and Germany to forge ahead by working in unity for a better future.
He said the two countries will continue to work together not only in development but also politically and culturally
