Oshikoto hungry to become number one in high school education again with holiday classes

The Oshikoto Regional Directorate of Education, Arts and Culture has introduced interventions to improve the performance of pupils in the region.

Acting director of education Thomas Kalimbo said during the Onankali Circuit Annual Award Ceremony held at Nyambali Secondary School on Friday that they are implementing interventions to retain the number one position in the Grade 11 regional rankings achieved with last year’s results.

In the 2024 academic year, the region achieved the top ranking for Grade 11 (ordinary level) results, while it was ranked fourth in Grade 12

“We would like to appreciate the effort and hard work of our teachers, school principals, heads of departments and all stakeholders for this good performance,” Kalimbo said.

Kalimbo stated that the directorate is rolling out and executing interventions aimed at sustaining the strong Grade 11 results and improving Grade 12 performance at national level.

“We will undertake holiday classes for Grade 10, 11 and 12 to go the extra mile,” he said.

He added that teachers will also be conducting weekend classes for additiona support.

“Capacity building and workshops on various subjects and grades are also planned to upskill our teachers so they deliver quality teaching,” said Kalimbo.

He further noted that individual schools have also devised intervention strategies, which the directorate will support.

Oshikoto’s Omuntele constituency councillor, Sackeus Nangula, called on parents of pupils at Nyambali Secondary School to assist in building a hostel at the school.

“We should build a hostel for our pupils to study hard and become number one in the circuit as they are currently performing academically low in the circuit,” said Nangula.

The award ceremony recognises the best performing schools, teachers and pupils in the circuit.

Oshikoto has a total of eight circuits, with the Onyaanya circuit ranking first in the 2024 Grade 11 performance, while Onkumbula ranked last.
