The City of Windhoek has announced an 8,6% increase in electricity tariffs, effective from 1 August this year.
The municipality, in a public notice yesterday, informed electricity users in Windhoek of the electricity hike following approval from the Electricity Control Board (ECB).
“It is necessary to foster social and economic development through affordable electricity tariffs, being cognisant of the fact that electricity is an essential commodity,” the notice reads.
Previously, Windhoek’s residents paid N$2,28 per unit, while Gobabis’ residents paid N$2,24 per unit.
These prices include vendor fees.
The ECB increase has raised the previous rate of N$1,82 per kilowatt-hour to N$1,98 per kilowatt-hour.
