7 arrested over Outapi violence

7 arrested over Outapi violence

POLICE at Outapi in the Omusati Region arrested seven people following a confrontation between Swapo and RDP supporters at Outapi on Sunday.

Omusati Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner Simion Shindinge, told The Namibian that the charges ranged from assault to reckless driving, obstructing the work of the Police, violation of traffic rules and intimidation.The seven appeared in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court on Monday.Three of them were charged with traffic offences.Peter Amadhila (34) and Naftal Mateus (26) were released on N$500 bail each. They were charged with obstructing the Police in the execution of their duties.Raphael Shekutamba (31) faces the same charge. He was released on a warning from the court.Gervacious Shimpanda (36) was charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He was also released on a warning.Deputy Commissioner Shindinge also told The Namibian that the Police confiscated many traditional weapons from Swapo and RDP supporters alike.Among the weapons seized were:•11 knobkieries; 7 knives;•2 traditional knives; 5 pangas; •sticks; one licensed pistol.
