As part of the next phase of the 2023 population and housing census, the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) is expected to announce the names of 644 recruits to take part in the post-enumeration survey.
NSA statistician general Alex Shimuafeni said the new recruits, expected to be announced today at the latest, will be chosen from unsuccessful applicants in the July application round and will commence training on Monday at Otjiwarongo, Mariental, Ondangwa and Rundu.
The recruits are expected to arrange their own accommodation in these towns.
“Candidates are required to bring along bank confirmation letters, copies of identity documents, tax certificates and police clearance certificates,” Shimuafeni said.
Training on the post-enumeration phase, a quality assurance exercise aimed at measuring the quality of the census, will kick off with training on Monday and will end on 27 October.
The post-enumeration and will be carried out from 6 to 17 November.
Shimuafeni, speaking at a media briefing in Windhoek yesterday, said during the verification process, not all households will be visited.
“The idea is to go through randomly selected enumeration areas and establish whether the data collected during the post enumeration phase matches the data collected during the post enumeration survey,” Shimuafeni said.
The survey will take place in all 14 regions, but only in selected constituencies.
Shimuafeni revealed that overall, 94,5% of households were enumerated and completed by 9 October. The remaining 5,5% are expected to be finalised by tomorrow.
He said the census is making good progress, with minor challenges such as poor network coverage and difficult terrain experienced in certain areas.
Shimuafeni said there has been a delay in the payment of census enumerators and requested patience as verifications are ongoing.
“We would like to assure the nation and all enumerators that indeed everybody will be paid what is due to them. No one will be left out,” Shimuafeni said.
Final payments are expected to be made by tomorrow, he said.
