President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has announced that 600 National Youth Service (NYS) graduates will be integrated into the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), with others joining the police and correctional service.
She announced this at the 16th intake pass-out parade at Rietfontein training centre last week.
“Namibians have to understand that when these institutions decide to take all the recruits from these institutions, they are not doing it of their own accord, but they are instructed by the law our parliament has passed,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.
She urged the Namibian Police and the Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) to consider the remaining 460 graduates.
Nandi-Ndaitwah also encouraged government institutions and state-owned enterprises to provide NYS graduates voluntary service opportunities as part of their work-integrated learning.
The NYS Act provides that graduates receive preference for recruitment into the army, police and correctional service.
Meanwhile, the NCS has published an advert inviting people between the ages of 19 and 35 to apply for 400 entry-level positions.
The NCS is also calling for former correctional service officers up to the age of 45 to apply for the position of correctional officer rank 1.
