5th Kleine Kuppe triple murder suspect in court

THE fifth person arrested in connection with the killing of three people in Windhoek’s Kleine Kuppe suburb late last month made a first court appearance yesterday.

Joseph Hanghoma appeared in camera before Magistrate Rachel Nathaniel in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court as the Police still plan to have Hanghoma take part in an identification parade. Hanghoma, a 29-year-old resident of Greenwell Matongo in the capital, was arrested at Keetmanshoop early on Thursday last week.He is the latest suspect to be detained in connection with the slaying of three Windhoek residents, Magda and Mario de Souza (aged 43 and 46 respectively), and Koos Stoop (35), at the De Souza couple’s Kleine Kuppe residence on the evening of February 27.He was yesterday joined to the case in which four co-accused already face three charges of murder and a count of theft.Like his fellow suspects – Paulus Aaron Willibard (24), Theofilus Naftali (27), Johannes Hango (29), and Angolan national Pedro Sampai Matondo (34) – Hanghoma was remanded in custody when the Magistrate postponed his case to May 26 for further investigation. The De Souza couple and Stoop were shot dead during an alleged robbery at the De Souzas’s home in Natco Street, Kleine Kuppe. They had been having a barbecue at a thatched-roof area outside area when suspected robbers, who are thought to have gained entrance to the premises by having removed part of a pre-cast concrete boundary wall, pounced on their victims. When they left, three of the four people on the premises had been mortally wounded and the De Souzas’s dog had also been shot dead – but a fourth person, Anja Britz, had survived to tell the tale. The suspected robbers made off with Mrs de Souza’s brown leather handbag, containing her cellphone and a bank card, as well as a cellphone belonging to Mr De Souza. In the early morning hours of March 6 the Police descended on a house in Wanaheda, Windhoek, where another alleged suspect was thought to be.He allegedly opened fire on the Police, and was shot dead in the ensuing shoot-out.He has been identified as one Johannes Joshua.Hanghoma, a 29-year-old resident of Greenwell Matongo in the capital, was arrested at Keetmanshoop early on Thursday last week.He is the latest suspect to be detained in connection with the slaying of three Windhoek residents, Magda and Mario de Souza (aged 43 and 46 respectively), and Koos Stoop (35), at the De Souza couple’s Kleine Kuppe residence on the evening of February 27.He was yesterday joined to the case in which four co-accused already face three charges of murder and a count of theft.Like his fellow suspects – Paulus Aaron Willibard (24), Theofilus Naftali (27), Johannes Hango (29), and Angolan national Pedro Sampai Matondo (34) – Hanghoma was remanded in custody when the Magistrate postponed his case to May 26 for further investigation. In the early morning hours of March 6 the Police descended on a house in Wanaheda, Windhoek, where another alleged suspect was thought to be.He allegedly opened fire on the Police, and was shot dead in the ensuing shoot-out.He has been identified as one Johannes Joshua.
