40 knives confiscated in Swakop sting

KNIVES in all shapes and sizes have been seized by Police in a sting operation at the coast.

The Station Commander of NamPol (Swakopmund) said the ‘flash operation’, in which 40 knives were confiscated on Friday should serve as a stern warning to the community. Chief Inspector Ottilie Kashipulua said it would be the last time that such dangerous objects would be merely confiscated without a charge of illegal possession of dangerous weapons being enforced.”We cannot tolerate this any more. There are too many rapes, murders and robberies committed using instruments such as these.”It is a crime to carry knives and other weapons and from now on the perpetrators will face charges,” she said. The operation took place from 23h00 on Friday until 04h00 on Saturday.Bars and shebeens in Mondesa were specifically targeted, according to the Police official.A total of 40 knives, including pocket knives, kitchen knives, bait cutters, traditional daggers, sharpened butter knives and modified screwdrivers were among the objects seized.Several ‘knobkieries’ were also confiscated.Chief Inspector Ottilie Kashipulua said it would be the last time that such dangerous objects would be merely confiscated without a charge of illegal possession of dangerous weapons being enforced.”We cannot tolerate this any more. There are too many rapes, murders and robberies committed using instruments such as these.”It is a crime to carry knives and other weapons and from now on the perpetrators will face charges,” she said. The operation took place from 23h00 on Friday until 04h00 on Saturday.Bars and shebeens in Mondesa were specifically targeted, according to the Police official.A total of 40 knives, including pocket knives, kitchen knives, bait cutters, traditional daggers, sharpened butter knives and modified screwdrivers were among the objects seized.Several ‘knobkieries’ were also confiscated.
