4 shot in family drama

A 16-month-old baby, an eight-year-old boy and two women are in hospital after a man allegedly tried to kill his family on Friday night.

Residents of the Vaalhoek neighbourhood in Khomasdal, Windhoek, were stunned when the man went on a shooting rampage – apparently after quarelling with his wife. No fewer than four shots were fired before the voices of screaming women fell silent and the suspect sped off – seemingly leaving his wife, two children and his sister-in-law for dead. The 16-month-old baby, Sissie, was shot in the stomach and is in a critical condition. The suspect’s wife, 28-year-old Priscilla Endjala, was shot in the chest, while his eight-year-old son Franco was wounded in the left leg.His sister-in-law, Dorothy Gatyehe, was shot in the stomach.RUSH TO PROTECT BABY According to bystanders, the suspect had arrived home less than half an hour before the shooting spree. After the first series of shots were fired, his wife, already wounded, apparently tried to rush to the neighbours’ house where their 16-month-old daughter Sissie was being looked after. The suspect reportedly got hold of the baby before his wife could, and sped off with her.The Police’s public relations department reported yesterday that the baby was also shot in the stomach. She has been admitted to the MediClinic Hospital, where she is reported to be in a critical condition. All the other victims were admitted to the Windhoek Central Hospital and are reportedly in a stable condition.Police found the weapon used in the attack on the scene. The suspect has since been arrested, although Police could not confirm yesterday where or when exactly this took place. He is set to make his first court appearance today on four separate charges of attempted murder. The family lives in a backyard flat in Khomasdal’s Garnet Street.Neighbours expressed shock at the incident, saying that the suspect, whose name can only be revealed once he has appeared in court, was a quiet man, not known for violent behaviour.”He doesn’t even drink or smoke, he must have snapped or something,” one woman said.No fewer than four shots were fired before the voices of screaming women fell silent and the suspect sped off – seemingly leaving his wife, two children and his sister-in-law for dead. The suspect reportedly got hold of the baby before his wife could, and sped off with her.
