The 26th Namibian Rotary Club Cycle Classic mountain bike race kicked off in Windhoek on Saturday, with participants taking on 40km, 30km, and 15km routes.
Families and friends turned out in large numbers to support the cyclists. The race began at 07h00, with some participants acompleting the course within an hour.
Mienke de Beer, who finished first in the under-12 girls 15km race, described it as “a very good and exciting race” and said she felt strong throughout.
Roger Surén, who won the 40km race, said the track was “super nice and interesting.”
“It was a raw track with few rocks. I had to be quick with my reactions and stay fully focused.” Surén said after completing the race in 1 hour 44 minutes.
The road bike race is scheduled for Sunday, with distances of 25km, 60km, and 100km.
The prize-giving ceremony for both events will take place on Sunday.
