The police in the Erongo region are investigating a case of stock theft after 25 Friesian horses, valued at N$1.25 million, were stolen from a farm at Omaruru.
The incident is believed to have occurred between July 2022 and March 2025 at farm Kasandara Game.
According to senior inspector Judith Shomongula of the Erongo police, no suspect has been identified or arrested.
“It is alleged that an unknown suspect or suspects stole 25 Friesian horses from the farm and later sold them,” Shomongula says.
The stolen horses belonged to a Namibian woman (68), who reported the matter to the police after noticing the animals going missing over time.
None have been recovered, and investigators believe the horses may have been sold outside the district.
The case is being investigated under the Stock Theft Act, which carries serious penalties for those found guilty of stealing livestock.
Shomongula says the police are appealing to farmers, auction operators, and the public to assist with information.
“We are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects to come forward,” she says.
Members of the public can contact detective inspector Ndeshifilwa Teofelus at 081 327 2505.
Police investigations are ongoing.
