2017’s Horror Movie Releases

As of late, horror movies haven’t been receiving that many positive reviews, aside from ‘The Conjuring 2’ – the trailer had the world rushing off to the cinemas for the perfect horror experience. With controversy surrounding the movie (such as people mysteriously dying and disappearing around the world), the horror genre was flung back into the spotlight.

But now that the hype has died down, frightening flicks are not as big any longer, with some even claiming the genre may be reaching its end. With the new line-up of movies coming next year, there’s no telling whether the horror game might just be getting better and we can’t wait to see how it goes. Here’s a handful of horrors coming your way.

In 1974, there was a terrible true story of a family of six found dead, face down, executed in their beds. Now, there was a man, Ronald Defeo, who was the survivor of this incident, but claimed that he wasn’t home during the time of the murder. When the police found a gun in his room, he confessed and was found guilty, receiving six life sentences. The creepiest part? Gunshots were not heard and the family was not drugged. Another family moved into the home and a month later, they left. A pastor said it was haunted. Years later, a family of three move into the house and more supernatural occurrences torment the family.

Paranormal investigators Edward and Lorraine Warren are no strangers to odd cases. Before ‘The Conjuring’, one of their first cases included ‘Annabelle’, where a haunted doll comes into a couple’s life and causes absolute chaos. Revealing satanic cults, strange activities and soul-snatching demons, the story became a worldwide hit and the last thing we saw was the doll Annabelle confined in a glass case.

Looks like her story is not ending there. Years later, a doll maker and his wife welcome a nun and a few girls into their home.

Little do they know that he is the creator of the Annabelle doll and soon, they are plagued by the person possessing it. Popcorn, anyone?

Who can forget the image of Samara dressed in a white gown with long black hair crawling out of a television screen, threatening to murder people unlucky enough to watch her strange tape? That story turned into one of the highest grossing horror films of all time, and it’s not difficult to see why. In 2005, a sequel was released and sadly, it didn’t do so well. But the third time may be a charm for ‘Rings’ or ‘The Ring 3’, scheduled for release in February 2017. The plot fast-forwards to 17 years later where a woman worries about her boyfriend who can’t help exploring the mysteries of the video tape. This time, there’s a never-seen-before movie within the movie and it’s more messed-up than you can ever imagine…

It was a spine-chilling scene of a shadow animatedly creeping along the walls and unexpectedly forming into an image of a demonic nun. If you watched ‘The Conjuring 2’, you would know exactly what happened next. Disturbingly haunting, fans will get a chance to understand the history of this creepy nun thanks to ‘The Conjuring 2’ director James Wan and producer Peter Safran. We didn’t really get to go into detail with her story, because funnily enough, her character was only added three months prior to the movie’s release, thanks to a ‘revelation’. Curious to know her story? So are we. Just don’t forget to sleep with the lights on.
