2 Namibians caught with stolen car in Zim

TWO Namibian men were arrested in Zimbabwe on Monday after police there tracked down an Isuzu bakkie that they allegedly stole from Parcel Force Couriers in Windhoek on Friday.

The Zimbabwean Herald newspaper reported yesterday that the suspects, Victor Mambumbo and Fita Simon, were taken into custody after police used a tracking device installed in the vehicle to trace it to premises in Victoria Falls. Although the Namibian Police were unable to confirm the report late yesterday afternoon, they are believed to have alerted their counterparts in Harare to the theft after discovering that the vehicle had been taken out of the country.Parcel Force owner Harold von Luttichau said yesterday that the bakkie had been recovered and was now back in Parcel Force’s possession. He had only learnt the names of the suspects late yesterday afternoon, and said that he would have to check whether the two men were in his employ.Investigations are still in progress, and it is not yet known what the men were planning to do with the vehicle.According to the Zimbabwean Herald, the suspects could possibly be part of a larger syndicate of car thieves operating throughout the SADC region. It is believed that they cross borders at illegal entry points.Although the Namibian Police were unable to confirm the report late yesterday afternoon, they are believed to have alerted their counterparts in Harare to the theft after discovering that the vehicle had been taken out of the country.Parcel Force owner Harold von Luttichau said yesterday that the bakkie had been recovered and was now back in Parcel Force’s possession.
