19 arrested over illicit drugs

NINETEEN men were arrested for drug-related offences over the weekend, the latest police crime report states.

The report, issued by police deputy commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi, revealed that a total of nine drug-related cases – including dealing in cannabis, Mandrax and cocaine – were reported.

In one incident in the Donker­hoek location at Khorixas on Friday, three men aged 23, 24 and 27 were arrested after they were found in possession of cannabis and Mandrax tablets, as well as cash.

The street value of the confiscated drugs has not yet been determined as police investigations are continuing.

In another incident reported on the same day, three men aged 18, 24 and 27 were arrested at Kalkrand at different times after they were found in possession of 70 grammes, 55 grammes and one parcel of cannabis, respectively.

The combined street value of the drugs was put at N$7 900.

At Kamanjab’s Five Rand location, a 28-year-old man was also arrested on Friday after the police searched his house.

“Thirty balies of cannabis and loose cannabis were found in a black plastic bag,” said the police report.

In Windhoek’s Hakahana location, a 34-year-old man was arrested at about 14h00 after he was found in possession of cannabis with a street value of N$220 000 on Friday.

Also on Friday at Omaruru, five men between the ages of 17 and 28 were arrested after they were found in possession of Mandrax tablets and cannabis.

The confiscated drugs had a combined street value of N$4 680.

“They [the suspects] will appear in the Omaruru Magistrate’s Court today [yesterday]. Police investigations continue,” said the report.

Another arrest involving a 32-year-old suspect was reported at Tsumeb on Friday, while a 27-year-old male was arrested on Sunday at Wanaheda in Windhoek at around 03h00 after he was found in possession of 66 rocks of crack cocaine.

“The value of the drugs is yet to be determined,” said the report.
