165 arrested in drug crackdown

The police recorded the seizure of more than 279kg of illicit drugs and arrested 165 suspects during anti-drug operations carried out across the country in June.

According to a media statement issued by national police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, officers confiscated 279.292kg of cannabis, 3 480.6 mandrax tablets, 440.6 units of crack cocaine, 23 grammes of methcathinone (khat) and 153 sildenafil tablets between 1 and 30 June.

“A total number of 165 suspects were arrested, which includes 162 Namibian nationals, one Chinese national and two Congolese nationals,” she says.

Shikwambi says the seizures and arrests underscore the Namibian police’s commitment to combating the illegal use, possession and distribution of drugs in the country.
