A 16-year-old boy has died at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital’s psychiatric ward after a patient was found jumping on him while he lay unconscious on the floor.
According to a report issued by Oshana police spokesperson Thomas Aiyambo, it is alleged that a nurse found the boy, identified as Karel Ndakolo, unconscious lying on the floor while a fellow patient was jumping on his stomach, at about 07h50 on Wednesday.
The nurse summoned help to remove the patient, who was violent, from Ndakolo.
A doctor was also called in and declared Ndakolo dead.
Ndakolo was in a room with three other patients.
“Two of the patients hardly talk, if they say something it is only two sentences or so, then they keep quiet,” Aiyambo said.
“They are the witnesses, they are all mentally challenged. [Ndakolo] was mentally challenged and was admitted at Oshakati State Hospital on 20 October, referred from Onandjokwe State Hospital,” he said.
Ndakolo’s next of kin have been informed.
A police investigation into the matter continues.
