Fourteen inmates escaped from the Ruacana Police Station holding cells on Monday.
This is according to a report by Omusati regional commander commissioner Ismael Basson.
He says the suspects managed to open an unlocked burglar door separating the cell area from a courtroom corridor.
They then forced entry into the courtroom by breaking the door.
Once inside, the inmates opened a window and escaped, Basson says.
“All 14 individuals were known suspects,” he says.
Details about the inmates’ original charges have not been released.
