Totemeyer quits
By: CHRISTOF MALETSKYDEPUTY Minister of Regional, Local Government and Housing, Gerhard Totemeyer, has resigned, citing health reasons.
Public Relations Officer Frans Nghitila announced in a statement
yesterday that Totemeyer will leave office on September 1.
He said President Sam Nujoma had granted the request for the
relief to Tötemeyer due to health reasons.
The statement said the President acknowledged Totemeyer's
contribution to Government as exemplary and appreciated his offer
to be available in a different capacity for temporary
assignments.
Tötemeyer served as Namibia's first Director of Elections -
from 1992 to 1998.
Before that he served on the first Delimitation Commission, was
at the University of Namibia as head of the Department of Political
and Administrative Studies, and was the Dean of the Faculty of
Economics and Management Science at Unam.
He became a Member of Parliament in 2000 and was subsequently
appointed Deputy Minister of Regional, Local Government and Housing
by Nujoma.
Totemeyer has published on political, administrative, electoral
and educational matters, particularly pertaining to Namibia and
South Africa.
