Zimbabwe trained teachers demand jobs

MARCHING for jobs a group of about 30 Namibian teachers trained in Zimbabwe descended on the Ministry of Education yesterday to deliver a grievance petition.

The unemployed teachers, who say they’ve had numerous talks since 2007 with the Ministry of Education and the Prime Minister’s Office, are demanding teaching positions before the start of the next school term. The teachers also demanded equal treatment with locally trained teachers and want experience as a requirement dropped in recruitment, as they feel discriminated against. ‘What was the main reason to send us for training so far and under such harsh conditions if we are not recruited and foreigners are occupying positions in science and mathematics departments?’ they asked. They demanded a response to the petition within five working days.
