Otjozondjupa regional governor James Uerikua says the N$1 million donation to Swapo that he announced at a gala dinner last week was not in his personal capacity.
He says the donation was made by Zebra Holdings, a Swapo-owned company of which he is the board chairperson.
This comes after The Namibian published a report saying Uerikua made the donation as an individual.
In an email to The Namibian, Uerikua wrote: “I noticed that the article reported that I, James Uerikua, pledged an amount of N$ 1 million in my personal capacity to Swapo, which is not the case.
“The fact is that I am appointed as a chairperson of Zebra Holdings, which is an income-generating arm of the Swapo Party.”
He said Zebra Holdings resolved during a meeting of its board of directors to pledge that amount for fundraising purposes and that as chairperson, he announced the company’s pledge.
