Zandell academy takes crown

THE Zandell Chess Academy was crowned as the fifth schools’ champions in Windhoek last weekend.

The Zandell Chess Academy took gold when they scored 24.5 /28 to wrestle the crown from Kolin Foundation Secondary School. The coaches, Candidate Masters Charles Eichab and Otto Nakapunda from ZCA, fielded their best team of Dantago Boois, Hange Tjingaete, Calvin Eichab and Jeremy-Dean van Rooyen. The best performers of the team were third board Calvin Eichab and fourth board Jeremy-Dean van Rooyen who both scored 7/7. They won all seven matches against their opponentsThe Weekend Chess Academy team of Julian Isaak, Matjua Kajovi, Tjitjiri Tjaronda and William Kamberipa took silver when they scored 19.5/28 in second place. Kolin Foundation Secondary school could only manage third place with 18 points and received bronze medals. Amoes Demostenes from St George’s Diocesan School, who was the third player, scored 7/7 in this event. The Namibia Chess Federation thanks all the schools that took the time to participate.
