OSHAKATI – A group of more than 200 young people from the Okatyali constituency in the Oshana Region in northern Namibia has decided to do volunteer labour for the Ombuga Tree Planting Project.

Oshana Regional Councillor for the constituency, Joseph Mupetami, announced this in an interview with Nampa last week. Mupetami said the youths, most of whom were unemployed, decided to become involved in the project as part of their contribution to the development of the country.He said the group would be placed under the supervision of the management of the project.”Although they are volunteers, anyone prepared to offer them any kind of support is welcome,” Mupetami said.The councillor added that the group was responding to President Sam Nujoma’s call for people to get involved in the planting of trees in the semi-desert area commonly known as Ombuga in the Oshana and Oshikoto regions.The Ombuga Tree Planting Project was launched by the President at Engombe, Uuvudhiya constituency, in Oshana two years ago.A total of 2 000 trees were planted on that day. – NampaMupetami said the youths, most of whom were unemployed, decided to become involved in the project as part of their contribution to the development of the country.
