Youth get political

THE National Youth Council in conjunction with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) is organising the first annual Namibian Political Youth Forum (NPYF).

Invitations were extended to all political parties’ youth wings, who will be participating in the forum. The forum is aimed at engaging Namibian youth organisations in developing dialogue with each other, and creating a platform to help the youth understand how government works on regional and international level, as well as to understand the social and economic issues that affect the country.Addressing a press conference in Windhoek yesterday, the Chairman of the NPYF, Brian Riruako, said they had realised that the youth wings of Namibian political parties are not really involved in policy-making matters, specifically those of Vision 2030.”Therefore, it is important to bring together all the political youth to strategise and work out mechanisms to build Namibia into a better country,” he said.FES representative Volker Nicolai said the sponsors intend to hold the forum as a yearly event that promotes democracy. This year’s event will take place at Heja Lodge, east of Windhoek, from October 12 to 14.The forum is aimed at engaging Namibian youth organisations in developing dialogue with each other, and creating a platform to help the youth understand how government works on regional and international level, as well as to understand the social and economic issues that affect the country.Addressing a press conference in Windhoek yesterday, the Chairman of the NPYF, Brian Riruako, said they had realised that the youth wings of Namibian political parties are not really involved in policy-making matters, specifically those of Vision 2030.”Therefore, it is important to bring together all the political youth to strategise and work out mechanisms to build Namibia into a better country,” he said.FES representative Volker Nicolai said the sponsors intend to hold the forum as a yearly event that promotes democracy.
