Youngsters top scoring charts

BLACK Africa’s goal-getter Jerome Louis is still leading the goal-scoring charts with nine goals in the MTC Namibia Premier League (NPL).

Despite being used as a lone striker by coach Tollie van Wyk, Louis has managed to get past defenders with ease and his shooting and aerial abilities are unquestionable.
Louis, who turns 22 on September 23 this year, is part of the Brave Warriors squad of local players recently called up by coach Tom Saintfiet and is expected to be one of his key attacking members for the future.
Second on the charts is Tigers strongman Tangeni Shipahu with seven goals and despite being used a bit deeper in midfield by coach Willem Kapukare, the striker still finds the back of the net with ease.
Shipahu, who turns 22 next month, is a great prospect for Namibian football and if he keeps his feet on the ground, he is capable of hitting the big time in professional football. He is part of Saintfiet’s plans too.
Despite being the live wire for Tigers, it would be ideal for the management of the team to look for better opportunities abroad for the player who is deadly with both feet and who possesses the ability to take on defenders without fear.
Eleven Arrows frontman Muna Katupose is third on the list with six goals and he has improved rapidly – that is evident from his composure in front of goal.
Katupose, the identical twin brother of Tara Katupose, scored the last-gasp winning goal in the 3-2 victory over Ethiopia that qualified Namibia to the 2008 African Nations hosted in Ghana.
Katupose, who turns 21 in just over a week, was playing in only his fourth international match for the Brave Warriors when he scored the historic goal against Ethiopia. He has since not looked back and this season signed with Eleven Arrows from Oshakati City.
Katupose is used as the central attacker by coach Gilbert Rwasoka at Arrows, but at times strategically swaps positions with team-mates Rudolf Bester and Donovan Swartz in the front line.
Civics youngster Eslin Kamuhanga is in fourth spot, also with six goals, and is only 17 years of age. Kamuhanga has been a revelation for both the under-17 national side and Civics and can be an equally competitive customer for the lead striking role for the senior national team in future.
Kamuhanga has slotted well into the attacking formation of coach Ricardo Mannetti at Civics. A lot will be expected from Kamuhanga as he partners another youthful prodigy, Nelson Angula, at the side for the rest of the season, as Civics looks lean in attack at this stage.
