A 19-year-old woman, who is accused of strangling and stabbing a two-year-old child to death at Otjiwarongo last week, gave birth to a baby boy a day after her arrest.
Murder suspect Salome Uwukhaes was arrested on Tuesday last week on a charge of murder in connection with the violent death of two-year-old Jorida Narubes. She gave birth the following day, Sergeant Stephan Nuuyi of the Namibian Police’s Public Relations Division told The Namibian yesterday.Her child – a boy – is reported to be in good health and has been placed in the care of social workers at Otjiwarongo, Nuuyi said.Uwukhaes remains in Police custody in the meantime.Her case made a first appearance on the court roll of the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.In Uwukhaes’s absence, the case was postponed to November 7.Uwukhaes was arrested after she had allegedly been seen carrying a black plastic bag over her shoulder.The Police reported last week that it appeared that when she noticed that she had been seen, she dropped the bag and ran away.Upon closer inspection the bag was found to contain the dead body of Jorida Narubes.The child had been living with her grandmother at Otjiwarongo, and was reported missing around 10h00 on Monday morning last week.According to the Police crime bulletin that announced her death, Narubes was found dead the next day at about 14h00.She gave birth the following day, Sergeant Stephan Nuuyi of the Namibian Police’s Public Relations Division told The Namibian yesterday.Her child – a boy – is reported to be in good health and has been placed in the care of social workers at Otjiwarongo, Nuuyi said.Uwukhaes remains in Police custody in the meantime.Her case made a first appearance on the court roll of the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
