SWAKOPMUND – Young people between the ages of 20 and 24 in the Erongo Region recorded the highest number of HIV infections during October last year, according to the New Start Centre here.
During the same month a high infection rate was recorded among men older than 45, the centre’s Site Manager, Jacky Geingob, said. Speaking to Nampa on Friday, Geingob said statistics for women in that age group stood at 83 per cent, while for men it stood at 75 per cent.He said more people had come to the centre for HIV tests last year than in 2005.He ascribed this partly to the free gifts handed out during promotions and regular radio and television advertisements.Speaking to Nampa on Friday, Geingob said statistics for women in that age group stood at 83 per cent, while for men it stood at 75 per cent.He said more people had come to the centre for HIV tests last year than in 2005.He ascribed this partly to the free gifts handed out during promotions and regular radio and television advertisements.
