THE Youth Development Through Football (YDF) programme will be launched on Friday afternoon at Soccer House in Katutura.
The programme, which is a partnership between the Namibia Football Association (NFA), Goethe-Zentrum Windhoek and the German Technical Group (GTZ), started off in July this year with youth workshops in various towns.YDF is aimed at rooting out social evils amongst the youth and emphasise responsible living at workshops involving the youth on issues such as drugs, alcohol, HIV-AIDS and football.’We have had motivational workshops in four towns now and we are going for more. We also lay the foundation for the formation of youth leagues in areas we visit and we have done four so far,’ said Jakes Amaning, co-ordinator of the programme.YDF has so far visited Okakarara, Opuwo, Oshakati and Outjo.The launch programme on Friday starts at 14h00 and will include seven-a-side games with the national under-17 players at the Kasu Field next to Soccer House, musical performances by renowned artists Gazza, Tequila and the Street Kidz and a fashion show.Sports Deputy Minister Pohamba Shifeta and Deputy German Ambassador to Namibia Matthias Hansen will officially launch the YDF programme.Saturday will see the Khomas Under-17 league in conclusion with the programme starting at 09h00 as the National Media Team takes on the Diplomats. The Coaches XI and the Social League XI will meet at 10h00. At 11h00, Ongete and Navarra will contest the losers’ final of the League with the main Final to kick off at 12h00 between Rebels and Golden Boys.MTC has sponsored N$25 000 for the prize money, trophies and medals for the league, having also sponsored the league last year. – NFA Secretariat
