WINDHOEK – The X-Team from Walvis Bay made good of their trip to the capital by winning one and drawing another match in the Tafel Lager Indoor Hockey League on Saturday.
X-Team thrashed Ramblers 10-3 and drew 2-all against Wanderers which put them on top of the men’s premier league log standing with 12 points. X-Team was promoted to the premier league this year after winning the men’s first division in 2006.Ramblers played without a goalkeeper and made it so much easier for X-Team to slot in the goals.Asked why they did not rather forfeit the match and give two points away, Ramblers coach Mark Nel said most of his good players including all three goalkeepers were not available for the encounter. They tried to reschedule the match but the Namibia Hockey Union (NHU) wanted nothing of that, he said.Nel added that in indoor hockey it is possible to play without a goalkeeper but on Saturday his players just could not control the game.Michael Jacobs and Sheldon Isaacs scored all of X-Team’s goals, while Hennie van den Westhuyzen, C.Wessels and NHU president and player Jesse Schickerling scored for Ramblers. In other matches played on Saturday, Sparta, also from Walvis Bay, lost to Windhoek Old Boys Sports Club (WOBSC) and to Wanderers in the women’s premier league on Saturday.Polytechnic, who made its debut in indoor hockey this year, lost to Wanderers 0-3 and to the University of Namibia (Unam) 2-7 in the men’s second division.Ramblers’ men’s second team and their women’s first team did not pitch for their respective encounters, gifting WOBSC and Unam two free points each.Unam’s men’s first team also collected easy two points when Civics did not show up for their men’s first league match on Friday evening. Also on Friday evening, Draughters beat WOBSC 6-3 in the men’s first division. The indoor league continues with more matches on Monday evening.NampaX-Team was promoted to the premier league this year after winning the men’s first division in 2006.Ramblers played without a goalkeeper and made it so much easier for X-Team to slot in the goals.Asked why they did not rather forfeit the match and give two points away, Ramblers coach Mark Nel said most of his good players including all three goalkeepers were not available for the encounter. The indoor league continues with more matches on Monday evening.Nampa
