Women representatives on the party lists of Namibia’s various political parties on Friday visited The Namibian’s headquarters in Windhoek, as part of a Genderlinks workshop on Gender, Media and Elections.
The workshop, which aimed to provide women in politics with the necessary skills to engage the media on issues affecting them, also ‘equipped the politicians with skills to make their voices count through writing opinion and commentary pieces, press releases as well as their own profiles, critical skills that will help them as run for political office.’During their visit at The Namibian, the women held informal discussions with Editor Gwen Lister and other staff, discussing among other things, the role of the media in the run-up to the November elections, the coverage of various issues and opposition political parties in the press, the portrayal of women in media, and the voices of women as sources.
