Woman run over near Tses

KEETMANSHOOP resident Elizabeth Ida Cloete (37) died instantly after being knocked down by a car with a South African registration number on the the B1 highway north of Tses on Sunday.

Cloete was hitchhiking some 13 kilometres north of Tses, in the Karas Region, at the time.
Police Chief Inspector Sidney Philander yesterday said the accident happened at around 15h30 on Sunday.
The driver of the vehicle, registration number BXX 128 NC, told the Police he struck Cloete, who was standing by the side of the road, when he tried to avoid a head-on collision with a minibus, registration number CAR 2140.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened against Lamour Platt, a Namibian citizen, in connection with the death of Cloete.
* Nampa reports that a Katutura resident, Frans Christopher, allegedly hanged himself on Saturday, NamPol spokesperson Sergeant Stephen Nuuyi said in Windhoek on Sunday.
*A 52-year-old man was allegedly hit and killed by a vehicle along Mungunda Street near Katutura’s Single Quarters, Windhoek, at about 08h00 on Saturday.
Two other people were injured.
