A 21-year-old woman was throttled and raped in broad daylight along one of Swakopmund’s popular walkways on Thursday.
According to Erongo Police spokesperson, Constable Moses Hanse, the women was walking near Seagull’s Bed and Breakfast at around 10h00 on Thursday when a man grabbed her and threatened to kill her if she screamed.
He then dragged her into a bushy area where he throttled her till she lost consciousness.
The man then allegedly proceeded to remove her clothing and had sexual intercourse with her while she was unconscious.
After regaining consciousness, the woman discovered that she was naked and that her jewellery and cell phone, as well as cash, were stolen.
Her clothes were still lying nearby.
According to Hanse, a construction worker from a nearby site found the woman and immediately called the Police. A case of rape has been opened.
‘Our women and children are not even safe during daylight,’ Hanse said.
He called on the community to assist in ‘catching this criminal’.
Anyone with information can contact the Police at Swakopmund or Walvis Bay.
