Witchcraft giving car thieves easy ride

BELIEVING in witchcraft can cost people their car, the Namibian Police are warning.

In the Khomas Region, the gullibility of some car owners has now found a willing partner in the guile of car thieves, it is indicated by a message of warning issued by the Police’s Public Relations and Liaison division on Friday. The warning was issued “to people who make use of traditional healers, that there are people who are out to defraud them of their cars”, it states.Fraudsters convince the owners that they can “clean vehicles from evil deeds”, it was explained. To carry this out, the supposed traditional healers however require the car owners to provide both their vehicle and the relevant documents for the vehicle to them. What then happens, though, is that the vehicle gets sold and its ownership registration changed without the owner knowing of this.According to the Police, five people have so far fallen victim to this scam.”It is against this background that the Namibian Police appeal to those who make use of these so-called traditional healers to be extra vigilant when interacting with them,” the Police stated.
