Windhoek woman in court over uncle’s death

Fazia Coetzee (25) yesterday made her first appearance in the Windhoek magistrate’s court in Katutura, after being arrested on late Sunday afternoon in connection with the death of her uncle.

The 53-year old David Albertus Coetzee was found dead at his home in Papawer Street, apparently from a single stab wound in the chest. According to police information, the two had been involved in a heated argument, which turned violent when the man apparently hit his niece on the head with a brick.He reportedly also beat her with a piece of wire, when she retaliated by running into the house and grabbing a kitchen knife, the alleged murder weapon.The younger Coetzee was charged with murder on Tuesday, after being taken into police custody on Sunday night.During her appearance before magistrate Desmond Beukes yesterday, Coetzee was informed that she was to remain in police custody until her case returns to court on February 20 this year.According to police information, the two had been involved in a heated argument, which turned violent when the man apparently hit his niece on the head with a brick.He reportedly also beat her with a piece of wire, when she retaliated by running into the house and grabbing a kitchen knife, the alleged murder weapon.The younger Coetzee was charged with murder on Tuesday, after being taken into police custody on Sunday night.During her appearance before magistrate Desmond Beukes yesterday, Coetzee was informed that she was to remain in police custody until her case returns to court on February 20 this year.
