WINDHOEK’S Wernhil Park Shopping Centre has been completely revamped: it’s new image is upmarket, modern and in line with the hip and happening outside world.
Built more than 15 years ago, the centre, initially consisting of 55 shops, started to lose clients to other shopping destinations in Windhoek as it became outdated. Now, despite its new international look however, Wernhil Park has a warm and inviting atmosphere and embraces Namibia’s kaleidoscope of colours, its diversity and beauty, which lingers long after her many visitors, have left.New escalators have been fitted, and ‘traffic counters’ have been installed to track the number of visitors.”Easy-to-read and clearly visible directions have been erected throughout the centre to make it easier for visitors to find their way around, never having to worry about getting lost.”said Sven Thieme, Executive Chairman Ohlthaver & List Group. The new improved Wernhil Park is also the first and only shopping centre in Namibia that has rest room facilities that cater for the whole family.Apart from modern baby-changing facilities to make mom and baby’s visit stress free, special family toilets ensure that Dad can escort the children to the rest room when Mom’s got her hands full with the shopping. The number of parking bays has been significantly increased, with special attendants appointed, to ensure quick and safe parking said Thieme. The renovation of this top class facility, to the value of N$140 million, has entailed a complete face-lift.About 7 000 square metres of retail space were added and ceilings, tiles and light fittings were changed. The roof structure has been modernised and provides an additional 220 parking bays.Internally the mall has been completely realigned, and every shop, 70 in total, has also enhanced its appearance.According to Thieme, Ohlthaver & List’s added value to Windhoek’s City Centre now amounts to over N$300 million, invested over the past four years with the intention to invest even more in the CBD in the future.Established in 1923, the Ohlthaver & List Group of Companies (O&L) has a proud history of investing in the Namibian economy and society.Over the years, O&L has grown to become Namibia’s largest privately held group company outside the mining sector. The group has vested business interests in food production, fishing, beverages, farming, retail trade, property development, leisure and hospitality, marine engineering, the service sector and information technology.
