Weekend accidents claim two

TWO people – a Namibian man and a South African woman – died in two separate car accidents over the weekend.

According to Deputy Commissioner Silvanus Nghishidimbwa, the Khomas Crime Investigation Coordinator, the woman was one of four tourists travelling in a double-cab bakkie.About seven kilometres south of Windhoek, the bakkie hit a truck after it was apparently sideswiped by the trailer of a car that overtook it.The 50-year-old woman died at the scene. Nghishidimbwa said he could not yet release her name as her next of kin still needed to be informed.The other three passengers were admitted to the Roman Catholic Hospital with serious injuries.Nghishidimbwa said the accident took place at about 12h00 yesterday.He said the truck driver escaped the accident unharmed.A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.In another accident, a 35-year-old Namibian man died at about 05h00 yesterday morning when he lost control over his vehicle after which it overturned.The accident happened on the Western Bypass opposite the Windhoek Central Prison, Nghishidimbwa said.As soon as the man’s next of kin have been informed, his identity will be announced, the Police officer said.
