‘Wavered’ wavers on

NAMIBIA’S biggest venture yet into the world of filmmaking, the Sam Nujoma biopic ‘Where Others Wavered’, is not likely to be released this year.

According to executive producer Uazuva Kaumbi, the post-production process is still in progress – the same answer he gave some months ago. Exchange rate fluctuations were hampering the process, Kaumbi said. However, he said all of the film editing had been done and the editor, Ed Santiago, was currently in the US to lock down the visuals. The film will then be taken to major sound-houses for further improvements. The producers hope all this extra effort will make the film competitive on the world stage. In fact, according to Kaumbi, one of the main reasons for delaying the release is the fact that most of the major international film festivals for this year are over.He intends to take ‘Where Others Wavered’ to the Cannes Film Festival in May next year, and also to the Berlin, Venice and Montreal film festivals.”Since we have already missed all the festivals, we are focusing on doing a good job, we are not rushing it,” he said.Though Kaumbi expects the film to be ready for release early next year, he said Pacon, the initiating body for the project, would make the final decision on the release date.Exchange rate fluctuations were hampering the process, Kaumbi said. However, he said all of the film editing had been done and the editor, Ed Santiago, was currently in the US to lock down the visuals. The film will then be taken to major sound-houses for further improvements. The producers hope all this extra effort will make the film competitive on the world stage. In fact, according to Kaumbi, one of the main reasons for delaying the release is the fact that most of the major international film festivals for this year are over.He intends to take ‘Where Others Wavered’ to the Cannes Film Festival in May next year, and also to the Berlin, Venice and Montreal film festivals.”Since we have already missed all the festivals, we are focusing on doing a good job, we are not rushing it,” he said.Though Kaumbi expects the film to be ready for release early next year, he said Pacon, the initiating body for the project, would make the final decision on the release date.
