Warriors B team tour Ghana again

NAMIBIA’S national B soccer team left for Ghana yesterday for their annual training camp that will see them taking on some top sides from West Africa as well as a possible clash against Egypt.

The youthful squad consists of 21 players and is accompanied by Brave Warriors acting head coach Bernard Kaanjuka and his assistant and national Under-20 coach Ricardo Mannetti. Team manager Jakes Amaning left for Ghana last week to finalise arrangements for their stay. The Namibian team is expected to play against the youth teams of Ghana, Benin and Egypt during their three-week tour and will also get to play against local Ghanaian sides.NFA president John Muinjo said the camp was necessary for the development of soccer in Namibia and expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Youth and Sport for its support.’This camp is just a continuation of building on the hard work that we have started. We took some players there last year and we deemed it necessary to go there again. We have seen how our players have changed their way of play against these African sides and that is all down to these kind of camps, funds permitting,’ he said. ‘We are very grateful to the Ministry of Sport, for being the sole custodians of the team. It goes to show that together we can produce good players for the national team. This is indeed a great breakthrough with government and we are glad it is happening,’ he added. Muinjo said that development was important since it helped the players to graduate to the next level of football and that the future of Namibian football looked promising. The touring team includes players from the national Under-17 and Under-20 teams as well as the senior national team. Two late withdrawals are promising striker Papi Kavezembi, who withdrew from the team due to a knee injury, and striker Benson Shilongo who is attending trials in South Africa.The 21-man squad is as follows:Collin Ndjai, Max Mbaeva, Edmund Kambanda, Denzil Hoaseb, Neville Tjiueza, Alfeus Handura, Petrus Shitembi, Robinson Iyambo, Sadney Urikhob, Okeri Maekopo, Hendrik Somaeb, Innocent Tembo, Terdius Uiseb, Edward Maova, Enrico Hoebeb, Willy Stephanus, Terdius Lombard, Itamunua Keimuine, Steven Sabatha, Wangu Gome and Larry Horaeb.
