THE NuCreation gospel group of Walvis Bay recently signed a recording contract with one of the biggest gospel labels in the southern hemisphere, Brettain Productions.
The group, which consists of Joe Blom, Vivian Molauly and Johnny Davids, was created in 1999 by a group of friends who just wanted to sing and spread the gospel in the ‘fishing town’ of Walvis Bay. The name NuCreation is symbolic, Davids told The Namibian, as most of the original group members came from various other groups before they started this group.’Johnny and Vivian’ are established artists in Afrikaans music circles, and they became household names in 2003 after they won KykNet’s reality singing competition, ‘Zing’.Now, after a decade, NuCreation is ready to raise the bar with their music.’A new era has dawned for the group. We are busy working on the repertoire for the new album that will be released early next year,’ said Blom. ‘We are planning to collaborate with some of SA’s biggest names within the music industry. We would like to create a product that would do Namibia proud as well as take gospel music to another level.’The group said that they could not mention any of the ‘big names’ yet ‘before all the documents have been signed’. As to how they will take gospel music to another level, Davids said: ‘Simply by enhancing our live shows; the whole product in general. We would like people to see gospel music as big. We don’t necessarily want to just get on a stage and perform with a backtrack; we would like to incorporate a live band as well as audio and visual elements.’ Although solo gospel artists from Namibia, like Tiro, have already signed up with a South African label, NuCreation will apparently be the first Namibian gospel group to be signed by a big South African label.According to Davids, Brettian Recording Company is one of the leading gospel recording companies in the southern hemisphere. The company has, in its 20-year existence grown into one of the leading Christian family-friendly CD, DVD and book suppliers in South Africa. ‘They represent nine of SA’s leading Christian artists and numerous overseas CD and DVD labels. Their vision is to create and provide life-changing, family-friendly resources, locally and internationally through a world-class distribution network,’ Davids said.So now that NuCreation is going big time, are they still going to proclaim the gospel through their music?’Most definitely. This is the main aim of the group. We have been blessed with this amazing vocal talent from God and we feel strongly that we have been brought back together by His fate,’ said Davids. ‘We also believe that it was God’s will that we got this contract deal. We are forever thankful for our talents and for our group’s blend of harmonies.’
