THE Welwitschia Hospital at Walvis Bay now has a state-of-the-art computerised tomography (CT) imaging unit.

The N$3 million scanner, the first of its kind at the coast, was acquired for the hospital by Erongo Medical Services (EMS). According to Dr Brian Roberts, a director of EMS, the multi-slice spiral scanner is able to take three-dimensional X-rays from all sides. The multi-slice function means patients are not required to lie down for as long, and fewer rotations are necessary.EMS Managing Director Matthias Braune said that in future fewer patients would have to be evacuated to other medical facilities, while scans could be done immediately in severe trauma cases. The Mayor of Walvis Bay, King Mandume Muatunga, presided over the official launch of the unit last week Wednesday.According to Dr Brian Roberts, a director of EMS, the multi-slice spiral scanner is able to take three-dimensional X-rays from all sides. The multi-slice function means patients are not required to lie down for as long, and fewer rotations are necessary.EMS Managing Director Matthias Braune said that in future fewer patients would have to be evacuated to other medical facilities, while scans could be done immediately in severe trauma cases. The Mayor of Walvis Bay, King Mandume Muatunga, presided over the official launch of the unit last week Wednesday.
