THE Walvis Bay Gymnastics Club will host the first ever international gymnastics club competition for rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline and tumbling on July 1 and 2.
The event has attracted 20 different clubs from South Africa, Namibia and Angola, and will be staged at the Jan Wilkens Sport Complex in Walvis Bay.Vesko Kostin, the event’s primary organiser, said the competition was created to give Namibian gymnasts a platform to compete internationally. ‘It is also a fact that the Walvis Bay municipality has ensured that the equipment for gymnastics is of the best quality in Namibia and we are therefore confident that our visitors will also be able to enhance their international participation at our club,’ said Kostin. The inaugural tournament has the full backing of the Namibian Gymnastics Federation. The federation’s president, Valereis Geldenhuys Venter, is expected to open the competition on Saturday morning. Representatives of the Namibian Sport Commission and Namibian National Olympic Committee will also be present during this event.’The Namibian Gymnastics Federation is supporting this endeavour and is very proud to be part of the inaugural competition,’ said Venter.
