Walenga appointed Ondonga headman

POLITICIAN and businessman John Walenga was recently appointed senior headman of the Ondangwa District of the Ondonga Traditional Authority.

At a ceremony officiated by Ondonga King Immanuel Kauluma Elifas, Walenga was sworn in as headman at his home at Oluno in Ondangwa.Walenga’s appointment follows the death of senior headman John Amakali on December 12 last year. He died of injuries suffered in a car accident on November 2 2008. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by senior headmen and chiefs from various traditional authorities of the Owambo people, as well as Chief Kuaima Riruako of the Herero Traditional Authority, village headmen of Ondangwa Traditional District, regional and local councillors, business people, farmers and many other community leaders.In another recent ceremony, the Oukwanyama Traditional Authority, under Queen Martha Mwadinomho Kristiaan Nelumbu, appointed Hangula Vatilifa as senior headman of Okelemba Traditional District, replacing Lukas Shinedima, a senior headman of many years. On the same day, the Oukwanyama Traditional Authority also swore in businessman Simon Moses as village headman of Oshalumbu village, Elias Kashindinge Waandja as village headman of Onandova village and Aron Shinana as headman of Oshali village.All three were sworn in following the deaths of the previous headmen. oswald@namibian.com.na
