Violent Talk Promotes Violent Acts

ALLOW me to speak about the behaviour of the ruling party, Swapo, after the formation of the new political party, RDP, which seems to be a threat to it.

As a loyal Swapo member, who believed in ’till death us do part’ with the Party, I cannot stomach it anymore to see people of the same country trying to prevent one another from exercising constitutionally-guaranteed rights to freedom of speech and expression, more especially, the freedom to form and/or join a political party of one’s choice. Since Omuthiya dual-rallies between RDP and Swapo, the political environment has become tense to an extent that women, children and the weak (socially, culturally, politically and economically) cannot take part anymore.I was very happy to receive the news from the 4th Swapo Congress that Mrs.Pendukeni Ivula-Ithana, was elected as a Secretary General of the party. She is a Minister and Attorney General as well as a lawmaker.I thought she is going to push for a pro-women agenda within Swapo. When the rallies to introduce the new Swapo leadership h started, it was more of spitting fire, irrespective of whether it is the speech of a female or male Swapo leader. From a President, Vice President to Secretary General of SWAPO Party, it is all “fireworks” against the fellow citizens. The most targeted groups or entities and individuals are those who are perceived, known or suspected to be sympathisers, supporters and members of the strong opposition parties and the human rights organisation.Madam Ivula-Ithana is one of the main culprits on these incidents. As one of the very few women in the leadership of Swapo, she should have possessed the mind, thinking, language, behaviour and heart of a “mother of the nation”.It is a case of serious concern that she has been chosen to become an aggressor, bulldozer and dictator in her political operations. The attacks and insults hurled against fellow citizens who have different opinions on issues of the country’s development are intolerable, immoral, unconstitutional and unethical. The provocation and instigation of violence by leaders put their followers into confusion, fear and insecurity. This was witnessed when two innocent people were brutalised. One police officer was stabbed and a Swapo activist (hostile) was shot and succumbed to gunshot wounds at Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital. All these happened after some of the seven (7) Swapo senior politicians have made their notorious speeches. They called other citizens spies, botsotsos, thieves, liars, drunkards and useless.Swapo party leaders, specifically its Secretary General, need to take a break and take stock on how they’re doing their political campaign. If one is holding a public meeting ensure the safety, orderliness, discipline, civility and peace at that place, before and after the meeting. So, Ivula-Ithana must guarantee this great nation that no repeat incident takes place in future.Any kind of violence and political instigation must stop now! Swapo leaders must speak out against violence of whatever nature. How can we stop domestic violence and gender-based violence if we make the very same people the victims of political and economic abuse? It is also a cause of concern that the King of Ondonga, who is also a Chairperson of the Council of Traditional Leaders, attended the Swapo rally. This is not the first time he is partially associated or attending Swapo rallies. That gives the impression that he is condoning the violent acts against his own people.King Immanuel Kauluma Elifas must pronounce himself publicly if he is aware of the human rights violations committed in his presence.Mandengu goMuuzilo Via e-mailSince Omuthiya dual-rallies between RDP and Swapo, the political environment has become tense to an extent that women, children and the weak (socially, culturally, politically and economically) cannot take part anymore.I was very happy to receive the news from the 4th Swapo Congress that Mrs.Pendukeni Ivula-Ithana, was elected as a Secretary General of the party.
