It’s often been said that youth is wasted on the young. And while that may be true, there are still young people who are using the energy of their youth to achieve their dreams.
Eunice Adeleke, a young poet and now, published author of ‘Victory at Last’, an anthology of poetry and short stories says that writing is not easy but with passion and dedication, she managed to finish her book. In her anthology, Eunice attempts to revive the African tradition of storytelling in written form, with a modern twist that addresses contemporary issues. She dedicates her first publication to ‘every brave girl, boy, man and women who despite challenges persevere on to a victorious end’.A collection of six short stories, poems and accompanying photos, each story captures the life of each individual’s struggle against one prejudice or another, depicting their experiences, yet who against the odds, go on to conquer and attain ‘Victory at Last’Written in 2005, Eunice initially struggled to secure funding for this publication until she applied for a National Arts Council (NAC) grant in 2011. Without a publisher or editor, Eunice did all the editing work herself until Director of the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) and published poet also, Werner Thaniseb stepped in to help. 100 copies of ‘Victory at Last’ were publised, with reprints planned for the future. Copies sell for N$100 each and are available at The Book Den in Wernhil Park and as an e-book on www.lulu.com.
