A NAMPOST client has made a complaint of lost items against the parastatal.
Heidi Koch posted six parcels to Germany at the Ausspannplatz branch of Nampost on October 26, but they had not reached their destination by yesterday.
The six items were personalised calendars of substantial sentimental value to Koch and the intended recipients -her family – but of little value to anyone else. Koch alleges that of the six items she paid for to be delivered to Germany, only one was actually sent. She was given six individual receipts for the items, but when the items did not arrive in Germany she suspected something and examined the receipts. It then emerged that only one of the receipts was authentic and the other five were duplicates, indicating that only a single calendar was processed by the Post Office and the remainder were somehow diverted into unauthorised hands.Despite only one of the calendars apparently being officially processed by the Post Office she was charged for all six at a cost of N$38,90 each. She alleges that the clerk who attended to her not only withheld her calendars, but also misled her by issuing false receipts and concealed the full value of the payment from the Post Office itself. The Ausspannplatz branch postmaster, David Fredericks, responded to the complaint with surprise and disbelief, stating that he was ‘shocked’.He maintains that in his six years as postmaster at that branch, he has never received a single complaint of missing packages or undelivered items until now. The clerk whose name is on the receipts is currently on leave.Fredericks declined to comment on the matter pending an internal investigation. He said if it is found that the clerk issued fraudulent receipts, she would be hauled before a disciplinary hearing.
