V-Power Rally to hit Swakop

THE powerful roar of the engines of rally cars will be echoing through Swakopmund streets from 10h00 on Saturday.

The Windhoek Motor Club, in conjunction with Shell Namibia and local businesses, is hosting the 2009 V-Power Swakopmund Rally.Drivers such as defending Namibian champion Dick Cornelissen, H. Arangies, J. van Dyk, D. Dippenaar. T. Himmel and O. Mendes will be competing over 13 stages and in five different classes. There will also be newcomers like husband and wife Johnnie and Monica Gentle and father-and-daughter team Stefanie and Willem Hugo.An old name in local motorsport, Rolf Pretorius, will be competing with his daughter, Katia Pretorius, in their newly built VW beetle.The 13 stages will cover 129 km in and around Swakopmund. The rally starts at the Swakopmund Entertainment Centre and the first car can be seen in action opposite Ocean View Shell an 10h05. Spectator route cards can be obtained at the hotel.The prize-giving event will be held at the Swakopmund Entertainment Centre at 20h00.
