CAPE TOWN – Satirist Pieter-Dirk Uys has advised Jacob Zuma to chop all Cabinet ministers’ salaries by half when he comes to power.
In an open letter to the future president, published yesterdasy in the Weekend Argus, Uys says Zuma should stock his team with ‘brains, guts, humour and energy’.
‘Cut every Cabinet minister’s salary by 50 per cent for the first year,’ he says.
‘If they don’t deliver by [the] second, year, cut another 25 per cent.’
Uys also urges Zuma to drop his lawsuit against cartoonist Zapiro, saying Zuma’s job as president will be to protect the Constitution, which enshrines freedom of speech.
‘I don’t want to become your enemy, because I think you deserve a chance to prove me, and so many others, to be wrong,’ Uys says.
‘Jacob Zuma could be a good president, maybe even a great one.
‘Comrade, the ball is, if not in your court, then in your shower,’ he said.
